BRAND IDENTITY
All films have what is called a brand identity. Brand Identity is the image, colour scheme or shape that you associate with a specific product. The thing you associate a product with is usually called 'iconic'. Something being iconic means that the thing associated with the product becomes its brand identity and people will be able to recognize the product just because of the iconic nature to it. Horror films and media usually have iconic images connected to them. Iconic images have to be simple but also unique enough to make it truly iconic in the eyes of the watcher. Some other iconic Horror images would be Freddy Krueger's glove or Jason Vorhee's mask. All the iconic images of Horror films help them to be defined from the masses of other Horror related media out there and keeps them remembered in the eyes of the public.
In our own trailer, it became very quickly apparent that our iconic image was the killer mask, similar to the Friday the 13th franchise of which we was inspired from. The mask is our iconic image because its the one major thing that pops up in many of the scenes within the trailer, helping to link up each segment of the trailer by using just one item. The mask we have chosen for our trailer is very different to the stereotypical masked killers mask. The mask we have chosen, the Guy Fawkes mask shows the killer has a level of sophistication to his kills and for his motives, rather than a ragged mask that gives very ravenous and sadistic connotations.

From our trailer, the most iconic image we had was that of the killer himself. The killer is seen to be wearing a mask and this scene has appeared more time in our trailer than most. It appears in every scene because the mask is essentially the essence of the killer and in some ways is part of his own identity. This establishes both our killers own identity and the 'Forsaken' film brand. This image of the killer shows gives us the ability to define the character of the killer because we can assume that the killer is engaged with his victim and is committing the murder, the blood on the killers mask shows us that the killer has already committed the murder or at least seriously injured the victim. This further backs up the sadistic nature of the killer and can also give us an insight into the sick nature of the killers life.

The mask is seen much more throughout the trailer, the image to the right is a scene where the killer is seen traversing through the night, it can be assumed the killer is going after another victim and is remaining shadowed in the night. The mask is again a vocal point of the scene and further reinforces the iconic image of the mask in association of the Horror trailer project 'Forsaken' As the killer is masked throughout the entire trailer, the mask becomes what we associate the killers face to be and thus further becomes a prime candidate for our iconic image.

The mask is seen yet again in a quick cut later on in the trailer that kickstarts the more action orientated scenes of trailer as the killer withdraws his knife away from the screen as if he has just stabbed the viewer.
The mask is shown very clearly and again used as a transition from the title to the more high octane sequences of the trailer, further cementing the idea of the mask being the iconic image of the Forsaken brand name. |
In this shot the mask is seen on the floor with blood covering the entire thing, the fact the mask is not being worn creates a sense of mystery as to why the killer is without it. This further cements the idea of the mask being the constant throughout the entire trailer and thus being a suitable candidate for a iconic image to associate with our band identity.
