Google Trends is a way to view the interest in search terms on Google. What Google Trends allows you to do is to type in something and it will give you statistics based on how searched the term was over a period of time and what regions had the most interest in the term.
Below we decided to search for the term Slasher Horror into the Google Trends and see how popular the type of genre seems to be.
From what we we given by Google Trends it seems that Slasher Horror for a long time since 2011 to 2016 the was particularly minimal interest in the term. Later on from 2015 and onwards however the term seems to be on an all time high in terms of popularity, especially with the spike of interest in 2016.
After the spike of 2010 the interest rates seem to be a lot more stable than before with the occasional huge spike.

Upon release the film was met with very mixed reviews, especially due to the sensitive nature of the film. What Lies Beneath was an American Psychological Horror film that was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film was released 21st July 2000. Upon release the film was met with very mixed reviews with many critics saying the film felt like the director's heart was no longer in the genre and that he was just proving he could still make Horror films. Others said the film felt very similar to an Alfred Hitchcockian film and that they felt the problems lied where he the director made decisions they believe Alfred would never have done. The film was a remake of a Japanese Horror film released in 1998 called Ring, which was originally based on the novel 'Ring' by Koji Suzuki. Paranormal Activity is an American Found Footage Supernatural Horror film that was directed by Oren Peli. The film was released on 14th October 2007. Upon release the film was met with positive reviews with critics praising the film on managing to make the atmosphere and mood of the film really tense despite nothing going on, especially when regarding the setting of a normal cookie cutter American home. On its opening at the Box office, Paranormal Activity grossed over $193 million worldwide.
